On April 29, 2009, Portland, Oregon Mayor Sam Adams held a press conference to unveil a new electric vehicle charging station. Mayor Adams addresses San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom in response to the electric vehicle grid race between the two cities. Jeff Kim, COO of Shorepower, spoke at the event. Video.

KATU-TV, the Portland Oregon ABC television affiliate ran a story about Portland General Electric building a network of charging stations around the city. The utility is working with cities and companies to install the charging stations. At first, the partners pay for the electricity, which comes from renewable sources.
