“Shorepower has gained complete control of the Shorepower Truck Electrification Project (STEP), according to a press release. The takeover comes after Cascade Sierra Solutions – the third party, nonprofit company that administered the grant – shut down for business.
“STEP installs power outlets at 50 truck stops across the nation, which electrifies 1,800 parking spaces in 30 states. As part of a $10 million project funded by the U.S. Department of Energy under the Recovery Act, truck drivers can now plug into the outlets to run air conditioners, heaters and appliances rather than keep the engines idling for power.
“To reduce the nation’s dependency on foreign oil, the Department of Energy’s goal with the project was to reduce the use of diesel fuel.
“In addition to the 50 STEO sites, Shorepower operates power pedestals at 12 other locations. Cab power and electric standby power for refrigerated trailers are provided at the stations.”
